Which five screens, and in what order?
- Account statusTop of the account. Confirms there is no suspension and no policy notice already sitting there.
- Billing → SummaryCurrent balance, payment method, anything outstanding. An unpaid balance transfers with the account.
- Billing → Transactions, all timeThe actual spend history, with dates. This either matches what the seller said or it does not.
- Billing → SettingsCountry, currency, prepay or postpay. Currency and time zone are permanent, so a mismatch here is not fixable afterwards.
- Admin → Access and securityWho else has access and at what level, plus which manager accounts are linked.
Status, Summary, Transactions, Settings, Access.
Doing Access last is fine. Not doing it is how accounts get taken back.
What exactly are you looking for under Access?
Three things: every user other than you, the access level each one has, and every manager account linked to the cabinet. An administrator can do everything you can, including removing you. A linked manager with ownership can control access to the account regardless of what the user list says.
Email-only and read-only users are not a danger and are often left behind harmlessly. A second administrator and an owning manager account are a different matter, and both should be gone before payment rather than after it.
What if something does not match?
Stop and ask, before paying rather than after. Most mismatches are mundane — a seller quoting spend from memory, or counting a figure that includes a period under a different payment profile. A seller who explains the gap and shows the screen is fine. A seller who argues with the billing page is not.
- Declared spend above what Transactions shows. The page is right and the description is wrong.
- Currency or country different from what was promised. Not changeable afterwards; this is a reason to walk away.
- A second administrator. Must be removed before payment, not after.
- A linked manager account you did not expect. Ask who it belongs to and have it unlinked.
- An open verification request. Inherited with the account and usually unresolvable by the new holder.
Common questions
What is the single most important check?
Admin and access. Open Admin, then Access and security, and look at who else is on the account. An administrator left behind by the seller can remove you, accept a link request from another manager and hand the cabinet elsewhere, none of which needs your agreement. Every other problem costs money; this one costs the account.
How long do these checks take?
About two minutes, on five screens, before any money moves. The checks are the difference between buying an account and buying a description of an account, and they work the same on a reseller, a marketplace listing and a private seller.
Checks are expected, not resented
Any account here can be opened and walked through before payment. A supplier who treats that as an insult is telling you something useful.
